Luke Littler said he wants to keep hoovering up every title going for years to come after he stormed to a second consecutive World Matchplay crown with a crushing 18-9 win over Gerwyn Price in Blackpool.
Littler was in ruthless form on Sunday night as he set a new record average in a final of 111.53, breaking his own record for 180s across the tournament as he hit 12 in the final to reach 66 for the week, leaving Price with no chance despite the Welshman himself averaging 104.97.
The 19-year-old added the Matchplay title to the World Darts Championship, UK Open, Premier League and Masters already won this season, and he is defending the Players Championship Finals later this year as he targets a clean sweep of the majors.
In October he will go in search of the European Championship crown to complete the set of every single premier title.
“From the start of playing darts, I just wanted my name on every trophy at least once,” Littler said. “Now halfway through the year, I could do it in a full year, win every major in a calendar year.
“If it happens it happens, if it doesn’t, it doesn’t. But once the European Championships come around that’s the one I need to tick off.”
With his original ambition of winning every major title already within reach less than three years into his career, Littler will need to set himself new goals – aiming to dominate the game for years to come.
“Records are there to be broken, by the likes of Phil (Taylor), the likes of Michael (van Gerwen),” he said. “As long as I win, the records are going to come with it. The trophies, the money, it’s all going to come at once…
“We’ve just got to keep going. Win it twice, win it three times, four times, maybe five times in a row.
“As soon as I do, hopefully, fingers crossed, win that European Championships I’ll be the happiest man alive.”
