The hiring by Brazil of Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has been criticised by the country's president.

Brazilian Confederation president Ednaldo Rodrigues has confirmed Ancelotti will replace caretaker coach Fernando Diniz when his contract with Real Madrid expires next summer. He is set to lead Brazil in the Copa America.

But president Luiz Incio Lula da Silva has questioned the choice of the Italian.

"I admire Ancelotti, but he has never been Italy's national team coach. Why doesn't he solve Italy's problem, which did not qualify for the World Cup in 2022?" says Lula.

"I like Diniz. He has the personality, creativity and control over the dressing room.

"It is very easy to train a club in Europe with eleven international players in the team. What is difficult is to come here and train Corinthians (who are in danger of being relegated from the top league). I would like to see if Ancelotti did a good job with Corinthians."
