M’sia DanceSport Federation eyes two silver medals in Cambodia

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysia DanceSport Federation (MYDF) hopes to dance its way to two silver medals in the men’s and women’s break dance routines at the Cambodia SEA Games in May.

MYDF chairman Chua Zjen Fong said the target was based on excellent performances from the dancers (men and women) who will be later selected and sent to Cambodia under Category A.

Chua said 2019 SEA Games gold medallist Lego Sam (Sam Jee Lek) is among the dancers MYDF listed but the list will only be finalised expectedly by the end of the month before the team leaves to Phnom Penh for the games scheduled from May 5 to 17.

“There are five names in the MYDF list but the final decision has not been made. There is one more national competition and the selection will be finalised by end of the month.

“We will be submitting a proposal to the National Sports Council (NSC) to send the dancers for a competition in Japan at the end of the month so that they can gain some experience. We hope the application will be approved by the NSC,” he told reporters after a NSC working committee meeting today.

The cost for participants competing under Category A will be borne by the Olympic Council of Malaysia while participants under Category B will either pay for themselves or be paid by their association.

However, the cost will be reimbursed if they win a medal at the SEA Games. – Bernama, February 16, 2023
