A viral CCTV clip shows a man allegedly stealing a perfume tester at Mid Valley Mall as netizens react strongly
A man who visited a perfume store at Mid Valley Megamall with his wife and teenage son has been exposed for allegedly stealing a perfume tester, after CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media.
The footage was shared by a Threads user known as @tyalavida, who claimed the man acted casually and nonchalantly as he took the tester.
In the video, he is seen looking around to check for CCTV cameras before slipping the perfume bottle into his back pocket.
Posting the clip online, the woman expressed her frustration, accusing the man of repeatedly using the same tactic by allowing his wife and child to distract store staff while he carried out the theft.
“I’m going to make this go viral. This is your stealing behaviour. You come two or three times and that’s your modus operandi,” she wrote.
She also criticised the family for pretending to be well-off, saying that if they had no money, they should live within their means.
The poster did not blur the faces of the family in the footage. Responding to criticism over this, she said she was under immense stress and experiencing panic attacks.
“People kept telling me to blur it, but if things go missing, I’ll be the one questioned. Because this went viral, it turns out he has stolen testers from other places many times,” she claimed, adding that she believed she could have been bewitched, as the suspects were “not empty-handed”.
Despite the heated tone of the post, some netizens were distracted by the sharpness of the footage. User Ieja joked that it was the true definition of being “caught in 4K”.
Others condemned the man’s actions. @kittyyisme commented that education and manners matter, urging people to live within their means rather than pretending to be wealthy.
Another user, Amer Imran, questioned the man’s suitability as a father, noting that the alleged theft took place in front of his son.
“He should be setting a good example for that child. It’s not impossible that this stealing behaviour will be passed on. Later, the child might end up stealing at school or from neighbours’ homes,” he said.
