KUALA LUMPUR – The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) will ensure that the 2023 Malaysian Open on January 10-15 attracts top shuttlers to make the high ticket prices worthwhile for fans.
BAM secretary-general Datuk Kenny Goh hopes that the tournament, which will be the curtain-raiser of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour series, will reap big returns and provide an amazing audience experience at the Axiata Arena.
“As everyone knows, this tournament is a Super 1000 or in other words, a badminton ‘Grand Slam’ event.
“We will do our best to ensure that fans have a very enjoyable experience for everlasting memories,” he said during a training session at the Malaysian Badminton Academy in Bukit Kiara here today.
BAM, through a statement yesterday, said that ticket sales that started at 11am yesterday has received a warm reception with several categories of tickets nearly sold out.
Kenny said the Super 1000 event will feature 30 world badminton stars for each category.
At the same time, he wants the vibrant carnival organised outside the venue as implemented in this year’s edition to continue to fuel the excitement for the 2023 Malaysia Open.
“I hope fans can attend in full force, giving solid support not only to the 2023 Malaysia Open but also to our national players. Thank you to everyone for this super response,” he said.
The Malaysia Open, which has been upgraded from Super 750 to Super 1000 starting next year, is a top-tier tournament on the BWF World Tour offering bigger prize money and higher world ranking points to draw top shuttlers. – Bernama, December 6, 2022
