M’sian Brand Padini Apologises for Now-Deleted Post Where It Was Accused of Fat-Shaming Customers

Clothing store Padini Holdings has apologised after it shared a now-deleted social media post that was considered insensitive, as many believed the post fat-shamed customers.

Taking to their Facebook page, the brand offered their apologies and assured that their management was looking into preventing such posts from being published again in the future.

Padini Holdings issues apology for “insensitive” social media post

They wrote, “Padini Holdings wishes to express our sincere apologies for a recent social media video that was insensitive and caused offence. We take full responsibility and have removed the video from all our platforms. We deeply regret this lapse in judgment and the hurt it has caused. We are deeply sorry for the hurt or disappointment this has caused.”

“We recognise the importance of listening to our community and learning from this experience. The management is reviewing our internal processes to prevent similar issues in the future. Padini Holdings remains committed to treating everyone with respect and understanding. We will continue to uphold the trust and confidence of our customers, employees and the public.”

 

The post that went viral

Prior to this, Padini Holdings posted a short video that showcases a staff member sitting in a thinking pose on the ground of one of their outlets while contemplating the caption, “How do we tell the customer that the Padini outfit isn’t small, but that she should go on a diet?“.

Many considered this a form of fat-shaming and called the brand out.
