M’sian Man Fined RM500 for Failing to Send Friend to the Hospital in Time, Resulting in His Death

A Malaysian businessman was fined RM500 by the Magistrate Court in Ampang yesterday (July 10) for causing the death of his friend.

He was charged for failing to send an injured friend to the hospital in time, which contributed to the latter’s death.

Magistrate Amalina Basirah Md Top imposed the sentence on Oon Tien Yue, 37, and ordered the accused to serve a month’s jail sentence if he failed to pay the fine. Tien Yue, who paid the fine, was charged with committing the offence of endangering the life of e-hailing service driver Law Mun How, 37, at a house in Pandan Perdana, Ampang.

The offence took place between 10.33 AM on June 20 and 7.50 PM on June 22. Tien Yue was charged under Section 336 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of three months’ imprisonment or a fine of RM500, or both.

According to the charge sheet, the victim, who was weak due to severe injuries from being beaten and had been sleeping in the car in front of the accused’s house for a week since June 14.

On June 20, Tien Yue brought the victim into the house but left the man in the living room without seeking treatment at the hospital.

Deputy Public Prosecutor M Ramanathan Alias ​​Ashwin asked the court to impose a sentence that was appropriate considering the facts of the case, but Tien Yue, who was not represented by a lawyer, appealed for a lighter fine as he had to take care of his parents, reported Kwong Wah and BERNAMA.
