For many people, getting married and building a family is seen as one of the major milestones of adulthood.
However, one Malaysian man shared that he is now in his 30s without a partner and has no plans to get married after a previous engagement plan did not work out.
According to a post shared on Threads, the 33-year-old man claimed that he currently owns a car worth RM150,000, a terrace house valued at RM800,000 and has RM30,000 in savings.
However, he said his plan to start a family was eventually cancelled after he and his former partner disagreed over their wedding arrangements, reported mStar.
Wanted a simple wedding, but partner wanted a bigger celebration
The man claimed that he had previously planned to get married but wanted to keep the wedding simple.
Never thought I would cancel my wedding because of hantaran. I promised to provide a comfortable life after marriage, but I only wanted to have a simple ceremony,” he wrote.
However, he claimed that his former partner disagreed, saying that having a big wedding celebration was a dream for many women.
Since that moment, I no longer felt like continuing,” he added.
Now spends money on his mother and overseas trips
Following the cancellation of his marriage plans, the man said he now uses the money he had saved to support his mother and fund yearly overseas trips.
His Threads post later attracted various reactions from netizens, with some discussing the importance of finding a partner with similar expectations when it comes to marriage and finances.
Some commenters said that wedding preferences should be discussed openly between couples before making major commitments.
Others shared their views on the disagreement, with some saying that both parties may have had different expectations of marriage and celebrations.
