There’s been a worrying surge in cases of perverts taking upskirt videos of women in public spaces, leaving many women feeling unsafe in places they should be able to move freely.
M’sian man seen filming under woman’s skirt
A video recently went viral on TikTok, shared by the victim herself, @shuqi97, showing the moment her husband caught a man red-handed filming under her skirt at an MRT station.
The woman, who was with her baby and husband at the time, had no idea she was being targeted until her husband noticed the man’s suspicious behavior.
After checking his phone, the husband reportedly found disturbing footage confirming the man’s wrongdoing.
Upon being confronted, the man sank to his knees and repeatedly pleaded, “Uncle, please, I’m begging,” in an attempt to avoid further trouble.
‘I was taking a photo of someone behind’
In the clip, the suspect hesitated to admit to his actions and made up several excuses when questioned by MRT staff, such as claiming he was actually taking a photo of another person who was behind the man’s wife.
However, his excuses did little to convince those present, especially given the nature of the footage discovered in his phone.
The MRT staff then proceeded to escalate the matter by handing the suspect over to auxiliary police officers stationed at the premises.
Following the incident, the victim shared that she has since lodged a police report at the Cheras district police headquarters to ensure the matter is properly investigated.
Reaction
Many expressed outrage over the incident, while others disturbingly blamed the victim’s clothing, sparking debate between those defending her and those promoting the modesty narrative.
