A female vendor selling nasi lemak along a road divider was injured after a sport utility vehicle (SUV) lost control and crashed into her stall.
Thankfully, no fatalities were recorded in the incident, although the vendor’s stall was completely destroyed as a result.
Wrong pedal pressed
Speaking to Sin Chew Daily, Dic Lai, assistant to Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng, said the accident occurred near the Jinjang Utara market at around 9.30am yesterday (June 25).
He added the SUV driver was making an illegal U-turn from the opposite side of the road and accidentally pressed on the gas pedal.
As a result, it caused the car to lose control and mount the road divider before colliding with the nasi lemak stall, its vendor, and another car parked behind the stall.
Following the crash, the SUV driver immediately got out from the vehicle to assess the situation before calling for an ambulance and police.
Fortunately, the nasi lemak vendor was conscious and did not appear to have suffered any serious external injuries. She was later sent to Selayang Hospital for treatment.
Unlawful operations
Lai told the Chinese daily that up to four stalls were operating along the same road divider, which is actually illegal.
However, no action has been taken by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) so far.
“While it was fortunate that no one was seriously injured in the crash, safety concerns cannot be ignored.
“We will urge DBKL to review whether vendors should continue to be allowed to operate stalls along such a dangerous stretch of road.”
