A road accident in Sibu has left a family grieving overnight, after a 39-year-old single father reportedly lost his life in a crash at a traffic light junction.

The incident was shared by Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng, who visited the victim’s family this morning to express his condolences and provide support.

Leaves behind 2 young children

According to Chieng, the man leaves behind a 12-year-old son and a 10-year-old daughter.

What made the tragedy even more heartbreaking was that the accident happened just before the girl’s birthday.

The father had reportedly promised to buy KFC for his daughter to celebrate the occasion, but that promise can no longer be fulfilled.

Assemblyman brings KFC meals to children

In his post, Chieng said he prepared two KFC meals for the children, hoping to bring them a small moment of comfort during a painful time.

Chieng also stressed that the incident should not be seen as just another accident.

He described it as a preventable tragedy and said the crash, which reportedly happened at a traffic light junction in Sibu, should serve as a reminder that running a red light can cost lives.

He urged the authorities to enforce stricter action, impose heavier penalties, expand the use of automated enforcement systems, and conduct a thorough investigation into the driver and company allegedly involved.

“We cannot wait for the next tragedy before acting. Every life matters,” he wrote.
