A teacher in Johor is facing jail time and/or a hefty fine after a student accused her of injuring her with a whiteboard duster.
Fakhriah Bustani entered a not guilty plea when the charge was read out before Magistrate Mustaqim Sukarno at the Batu Pahat Sessions Court today.
Threw whiteboard duster at student
According to Harian Metro, the offence was allegedly committed at a primary school in Tongkang Pecah at around 9am on Apr 1.
The seven-year-old student had returned home and told her family that Fakhriah had thrown a whiteboard eraser at her, striking below her right eye.

A medical examination later confirmed the bruise she sustained was consistent with Fakhriah’s alleged throwing of the object.
Granted bail
Fakhriah was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, which carries a penalty of up to one year in jail, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Firdaus Ruslan, while Fakhriah was represented by Normaahani Rais from the National Legal Aid Foundation.

The court granted Fakhriah a RM1,500 bail and fixed Aug 21 for the next case mention and submission of documents.
