M'sian Woman Confuses ‘Notice Period’ With Menstrual Period, Says Hers Usually Lasts 8 Days
Some work messages deserve a second read before we hit send. Especially when missing just one word can turn a routine conversation into a very personal update.

One woman learnt this the awkward way after misreading a question about her notice period and answering with details about, well, a completely different period.

She later shared the WhatsApp exchange on Threads, describing it as something embarrassing that had happened that day.

“My period usually lasts eight days”

In the screenshot, the other person began by asking about her notice period.

For anyone reading this as a work conversation, the question seemed straightforward enough.

However, she apparently focused on the word “period” and replied:

My period usually lasts eight days.”

And just like that, the conversation had become considerably more personal.

The clarification made it even more awkward

The other person then explained that they were asking about her notice period at work.

Since she was currently employed, they wanted to know how much notice she would need to give if she wanted to leave her job.

That was when she realised what she had just sent.

“Oh, sorry, I misread it,” she replied, adding a crying emoji. “Oh my God, this is so embarrassing.”

Some readers misunderstood it too

The replies were filled with laughter, with several readers admitting that they felt the embarrassment through their screens.

One commenter said they initially thought the exchange involved a boyfriend being concerned about his girlfriend’s period, before realising what was actually happening.

Another wondered whether the person receiving the unexpected answer had laughed in real life.

Meanwhile, one reader joked that they would no longer want to work there after an exchange like that.

Similar awkward moments

Thankfully, she was far from alone when it came to misunderstanding a perfectly ordinary question.

One commenter recalled an interview where they were asked how they should be addressed, only to blurt out: “Right now, I stay in Terengganu, but I’m willing to relocate.”

Another commenter shared a similar experience while calling a bank for help changing their banking app password.

During verification, they were asked about their latest activity. The question was referring to a recent transaction or purchase. Out of panic, they answered that they had been hanging out the laundry.
