A Malaysian woman has caught netizens’ attention after sharing why Chinese New Year remains one of the festive seasons she looks forward to the most, despite being Malay.
In a post shared on social media, the 27-year-old said her excitement has nothing to do with angpow, festive outfits, or visiting open houses.
Instead, it is all about mandarin oranges.

She recalled that when she was a child, her father’s company would distribute whole boxes of mandarin oranges to employees during Chinese New Year, a tradition that left a lasting impression on her.
I was always the most excited one,” she shared, adding that she could finish an entire box of mandarin oranges by herself in one go.
Those childhood moments, she said, shaped how she continues to feel about the festive season even today.
Now at 27, she jokingly referred to herself as a “baby” who still gets excited whenever Chinese New Year comes around, secretly hoping she will receive some mandarin oranges.
