Taking a career break to raise a child doesn’t mean you’ve stopped moving forward. But for one woman, that was apparently how her husband saw it.
In a series of Threads posts, the woman shared how her husband allegedly belittled her for being a housewife after receiving a RM1,000 salary increment.
According to her, he compared her lack of career progress with his annual increments and bonuses, despite the sacrifices she had made for their family.
Told her to choose between a new car and another wife

Recalling what she described as one of the most hurtful moments in their marriage, the woman shared the words her husband allegedly said to her.
You’re a housewife with no progress. Look at me, I get an increment and bonus every year. I want to buy a new car. If you won’t let me, you have to let me take another wife.”
His remarks hit particularly hard because she said she had been praying daily for his livelihood and for things to go smoothly for him.
However, after that conversation, she stopped praying for his income to grow.
Paused her career to raise their child

The woman explained that she had taken a temporary career break to care for their child from the age of six months until three years old.
During that period, she said she delivered packed meals to her husband’s workplace every lunchtime and cared for him while he recovered from an accident.
After everything she had done, his words left her feeling humiliated and questioning what all her support had meant to him.
Still, she made it clear that staying in the marriage did not mean she had no other options.
Instead, she wrote that she wanted him to understand how it felt to be on the receiving end of his behaviour.
Returned to work and now earns more than him

Eventually, the woman resumed her career and claimed that her salary was now much higher than her husband’s.
Meanwhile, she alleged that he went ahead and bought a car beyond his means, spending money on modifications to show off.
According to her, he would run out of money before the 10th of the month, struggled with credit card repayments and eventually sought help through AKPK.
Despite previously bringing up the idea of another wife, she said he now wanted to split their expenses equally after she returned to work.
In a reply to a commenter, she clarified that his first car was still in good condition and had three years of repayments remaining when he bought the second one following his salary increase.
Claims unpaid car instalments affected her credit record
However, her frustration went beyond his remarks about her career.
The woman also alleged that he had previously used her name to purchase a car, promising that he would handle the monthly instalments.
According to her, he failed to keep that promise, leaving her with an affected CCRIS record and debt collectors chasing her.
She described the situation as a betrayal, saying she had tried to be content with his earlier income and had supported him when he had little.
In another reply, she revealed that she had even paid her own childbirth bill of less than RM250 at a government hospital, as he did not have stable employment at the time.
‘Coming from your own husband, it feels like being stabbed’
Her posts drew sympathetic responses from users who felt that her contributions to the family had been dismissed.
One commenter wrote that hurtful remarks from others might be easier to ignore, but hearing them from your own husband felt “like being stabbed”.
Another pointed out that women do not simply put their careers on hold for no reason, criticising husbands who fail to appreciate the sacrifices involved in raising a family.
Others questioned why she had allowed him to use her name for the car purchase, while one suggested having an honest conversation with him.
Responding to that suggestion, the woman said she had already tried speaking to him, both emotionally and logically.
For now, she said her focus was on improving herself and proving him wrong, until he eventually had to face his own words.
