It’s not every day you hear of a resignation letter being rejected — let alone twice.

But that’s exactly what happened to one Malaysian employee, and her story has now gone viral.

A user on Threads, @shrfh_mt_srf, recently shared a close-up photo of her resignation letter along with a short but telling caption:

Third time submitting. Hopefully it won’t get rejected again. Bismillah.”

According to the post, the woman was resigning from her role as a Human Resources & Admin Executive, and the letter was dated May 13, 2025.

While she didn’t explain why the previous two attempts were turned down, the situation quickly drew public attention — and strong opinions from Malaysians online.

Netizens share their thoughts

Many netizens were quick to point out that in Malaysia, companies have no legal right to reject a resignation letter.

One netizen wrote: ‘In Malaysia, companies can’t reject resignation letters. Just email it and CC everyone in HR and HOD. Once you’ve sent it, your notice period begins. They can’t threaten you to stay.’

Another added that while an employer may offer a counter-offer to retain the employee, they cannot refuse the resignation itself.

According to a source, once an employee submits a resignation letter with the appropriate notice, the resignation is effective, and the employer’s consent is not legally required to validate it. This means that an employer cannot reject a properly submitted resignation letter.
