A 39-year-old Malaysian woman is currently receiving treatment in a hospital after she was allegedly assaulted by her husband, an incident that also led to her miscarrying at 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Allegedly ongoing abuse

According to Harian Metro, her brother, Mohd Firdaus Moktar said the victim had allegedly been subjected to repeated abuse throughout her marriage.

He said his sister tied the knot with the 43-year-old man in Thailand last December, but the marriage has yet to be officially registered in Malaysia.

The woman, who works as a civil servant, had been living with her husband at Ambangan Heights.

As her brother, I’m extremely angry and upset. She told me she had often been beaten during the marriage,” he said.

Beaten with multiple objects during argument

The situation escalated last Thursday (Apr 24) at around 1pm when the couple got into an argument.

Firdaus claimed that his sister was severely beaten using several objects, including a clothes hanger, rubber hose, metal curtain rod, and even a broomstick until it broke.

He added that the assault left her with serious injuries, including fractures to her left hand and fingers, bruising on her face, and possible broken ribs.

“She was also punched in the stomach,” he said, adding that the attack ultimately caused her to miscarry.

Lost valuables of up to RM50,000

Firdaus also alleged that the man had threatened to harm their entire family, including the victim’s two children from a previous marriage.

On top of that, the suspect is said to have taken jewellery and money from the victim’s bank account, amounting to nearly RM50,000.

My sister is still traumatised. She’s in the hospital because of the severe injuries she suffered.

“Tomorrow is her birthday, but this is what she has to go through. She’s now living in fear,” he said.

Suspect reportedly wanted

Firdaus said he has since lodged a police report together with their 64-year-old mother at the Kuala Muda District Police Headquarters (IPD).

He also claimed that the suspect is believed to be wanted by police in connection with a similar case in Johor.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan has confirmed that authorities have received a report on the incident.

The case is currently being investigated under Section 323 / 18 of the Domestic Violence Act 2017.
