KUALA LUMPUR – The national women’s indoor hockey squad missed out on the final of the 2022 Asia Cup Championships in Bangkok, Thailand after losing to Indonesia 0-1 today.
In the semi-final action at the Huamark Indoor Stadium, a field goal by Indonesia’s Desi Wardani in the final quarter of the game was enough to take them through.
Malaysia will now play Kazakhstan in the third-fourth placing match tomorrow.
“We had our chances, but we didn’t make the best of the opportunities we had.
“In any case, I am proud of the players for giving their best in today’s match right until the end,” said head coach Mohd Rodhanizam Mat Radzi in a statement.
Meanwhile, the fifth match of the round-robin league involving the national men’s indoor hockey squad and the Indonesian team ended in a 2-2 draw.
Malaysia’s goals came from Muhammad Firdaus Omar in the 12th minute and Muhammad Ashran Hamsani (20th minute) while Indonesia scored through Muhamad Alfiana (10th minute) and Prima Santoso (24th minute).
The national squad are now second in the league and have the mission of either achieving win or draw in their final game against Kazakhstan tomorrow to revive their chances of heading into the final against leaders Iran. – Bernama, August 14, 2022
