Fadhlina Sidek says MA63 commitment to Sabah and Sarawak must be consistent, not raised only during elections, as both states resolve education issues.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) should not be made an important agenda only during election season as the commitment to Sabah and Sarawak knows no season.
PKR Wanita chief Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek, who emphasised the matter, said that MA63 is not a new issue but has long been part of the party’s struggle and constitution.
“For us, respecting MA63 means respecting the voice and aspirations of the people of Sabah and Sarawak,” she said in a Facebook post today.
Fadhlina, who is also Education Minister, said that in the context of education, various issues that have been raised by both states have been successfully resolved together.
She said, this includes issues such as teacher recruitment, dilapidated schools and development, as well as the allocation and greater involvement of the state government in planning their educational needs.
“That’s why this commitment must be consistent. Sabah and Sarawak must always have a seat at the table, have their voices heard and be involved in determining what is best.
“Thank you Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for continuing to prioritise Sabah and Sarawak,” she said.
Earlier, Fadhlina also attended the 2026 Malaysia Agreement 1963 Implementation Action Council Meeting (MTPMA63) chaired by Anwar at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, this morning.
Anwar emphasised that MA63 is not merely a page of history or a document remembered every year, but rather a trust and national commitment that must be fulfilled with sincerity, fairness and full responsibility.
The Prime Minister said that the federal government is also committed to opening up extensive discussion spaces with the state governments of Sabah and Sarawak based on the spirit of unity to ensure that the nation’s prosperity is felt fairly by all citizens.
