Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has sparked fresh controversy by alleging that several PKR members who were perceived as not aligned with the party’s top leadership were taken in by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in the period leading up to the party elections. According to him, among those affected were individuals contesting senior positions, including the PKR deputy president post during the May 2025 internal polls.

He recounted an incident involving one of his closest political allies, whom he described as a consistently strong contender in Selangor. He said the individual had contacted him shortly after a Cabinet meeting, claiming that his home had been surrounded by officers while only his wife and children were present inside. Rafizi suggested that this episode became one of several cases that raised concerns within party circles about selective enforcement.

He said it later emerged that the person in question had purchased a property using cash, which prompted MACC’s attention. Rafizi added that when he reached out to PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to seek clarification, he was told that the investigation stemmed from the cash transaction. However, he maintained that such an explanation did not justify the manner in which the officers approached the situation, arguing that the individual would have cooperated willingly without the need for an intimidating presence at his residence.

According to Rafizi, the issue was eventually settled after the individual voluntarily went to the MACC office accompanied by legal counsel to provide his statement. He emphasised that the incident highlighted a larger concern—many within PKR may feel unable to voice dissent or raise questions without fear of repercussions, whether political or institutional.

Reflecting on his own position, Rafizi said he had no ambitions to return to ministerial roles and preferred living a normal life, noting that he is in a better financial position than many grassroots members. He suggested that this disparity leaves others in the party more vulnerable, especially when they lack the means or influence to protect themselves from such experiences.

He added that among those aware of similar incidents, there was a growing sense of scepticism and distrust toward the MACC’s intentions. Rafizi implied that these perceptions were shaped by the timing of the investigations, which coincided with the crucial period leading up to the PKR elections, creating the belief that enforcement actions could have influenced internal political dynamics.

The remarks have renewed debate on the relationship between political developments and institutional investigations, raising further questions about the need for transparency and consistency in enforcement practices.
