In an episode of his Yang Berhenti Menteri podcast, Rafizi Ramli alleged that during the PKR election in May 2025, where he lost the Deputy Presidency to Nurul Izzah, many PKR candidates who went against Nurul Izzah were detained by MACC.
What does Rafizi hope to achieve with this revelation that are short in detail from the onset?
Rafizi can’t expect MACC to just keep quiet and not response to such allegation.
As expected, with lightning speed, MACC, in a statement, deny the allegation.
Rafizi was in his mode.
His mode is always revealed enough at the beginning to get everyone perked up eagerly waiting for the next and subsequent episodes.
An act akin to a `striptease’.
His revelation in that episode is not his last on this issue.
If you are a betting man, you can bet that more and more will be revealed in the next few episodes.
One wonders why didn’t those candidates who went against Nurul Izzah, who went on win and become the Deputy President of PKR, who were investigated and detained by MACC lodged a report with the police or the oversight commission of the MACC immediately then?
Based on the claim by Rafizi in his podcast where he said, to quote ad verbatim’ many PKR candidates who went against Nurul Izzah during the PKR election, it is presumed all those who were allegedly investigated and detained are supporters who support Rafizi in his defence of the Deputy President post.
Why did those candidates kept quiet then?
Was that i.e keeping quiet, done deliberately for it to be revealed at a more opportune and relevant time somewhere in the future?
Or they actually don’t want to reveal them being investigated and detained by MACC publicly for fear that doing so could result in further action being taken against them by the authorities and the party?
Or they have actually committed some alleged acts that warrant the investigations against them?
Rafizi gave the example that one of these candidates were unable to get a loan and thus have to pay cash for a house which was put up for auction and the amount was RM30,000.
If the candidate is unable to get a loan, it means his credit worthiness is very bad and if he can’t even get a bank to give him a loan, how did he managed to raise cash of RM30,000?
Or he borrowed from an Ah Long like in the case of a former PKR Youth Chief who claimed in Court during a trial 7 years ago that as he could not obtain a bank loan, he borrowed RM500,000 from an Ah Long to settle repayment on the house that he bought from Public Bank for RM1.2 million in cash?
Finding an auction property for as low as RM30,000 in Malaysia is possible, though properties at this price point are typically low-cost housing - flats or apartments - often located outside of major city centers and usually require the buyer to have specific qualifications e.g., first-time homebuyer, state resident.
And in the Auction Process, the bidder needs to prepare a bank draft for a deposit (usually 5% or 10% of the reserve price) to bid meaning in the case of that candidate who claimed the house he bought was auctioned for RM30,000, how did he paid the sum of RM1,500 (assuming the deposit was 5% of the reserve price) or RM3,000 (assuming the deposit was 10% of the reserve price)?
Cash or bank draft?
The basis for Rafizi’s allegation was that when the candidates were interviewed, instead of being queried on the said allegations, MACC queried them on the the party’s election.
Aside from the above, Rafizi had, in a Facebook posting in July 2025, openly named 3 of PMX’s political secretaries who spent their time proactively campaigning to remove PKR leaders or PKR ‘rabble-rousers’ thought to be not in line with them.
Dear Rafizi, don’t keep the ordinary rakyat guessing.
Name those candidates aligned to you that being investigated and were detained by MACC.
And those behind the scenes who schemed and orchestrated those investigations by MACC.
