KUALA LUMPUR — The Anti-Corruption Advisory Board (ACB) has taken serious note of a Bloomberg report involving the Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Tan Sri Azam Baki and its implications for the integrity and credibility of the institution.

In a statement, ACB chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din said the board, which is one of five independent oversight bodies established under Section 13 of the MACC Act 2009 (Act 694), is mandated to advise, examine and evaluate the commission’s performance from the perspectives of policy, strategy, governance and effectiveness of implementation.

“Based on the review and explanations that have been submitted, the ACB notes that the requirement for asset declaration was clearly conveyed to the Chief Secretary to the Government in compliance with the Public Service Circular, in line with the prevailing public service governance framework and through the prescribed official channels,” he said.

Salim said all parties should refrain from making speculative claims suggesting non-compliance and instead assess the matter based on facts and due process rather than perceptions shaped by incomplete or unbalanced reporting.

He stressed that the integrity of the MACC as an enforcement institution cannot be judged through allegations or misleading narratives that are not grounded in facts, particularly when such narratives ignore the system of checks and balances and the role of independent oversight bodies established by law.

At the same time, he said the transparency and professionalism of the MACC remain subject to continuous monitoring by the board, including through scrutiny of annual reports and the provision of views and recommendations to the Special Committee on Corruption, as provided for under the Act.

“The ACB will continue to discharge its responsibilities independently, objectively and with integrity, without being influenced by external pressure, to ensure that the MACC continues to function efficiently, with integrity and with the confidence of the public,” Salim said. - February 12, 2026
