The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is actively investigating a fraud case involving over 600 hectares of Malay reserve land in Perak, according to Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki. As part of the ongoing investigation, more witnesses will be summoned, including former executive councillors (exco) of Perak.

Azam stated, "This investigation is now entering its second phase after an officer from the Land and Mines Office (PTG) was charged in April. We are scrutinizing the minutes from exco approval meetings and examining additional witnesses, including these exco members. Prosecution will take place soon." He made these remarks while attending the finals of the Higher Education Institution Anti-Corruption Debate Competition at Universiti Teknologi Petronas.

The case first came to light on April 30, when a former deputy registrar of titles at the state PTG was charged at the Ipoh Sessions Court. The individual, Rosli Che Mohamed, 64, was accused of altering the status of 649.2 hectares of Malay reserve land in the Sitiawan subdistrict in Manjung, dating back to 12 years ago. The charges involved deceiving the Perak Agricultural Land Board by misrepresenting the status of land with property title numbers PN 174770-174772 and Lot PT 17527-17529 in Sitiawan through a data correction form on March 25, 2011.

Additionally, a property company managing director was remanded for three days in connection with the case but was released on May 30. Despite the expiration of the remand order issued by the Magistrates’ Court, the investigation into the managing director's involvement continues.

In a separate development, the MACC is also focusing on a bribery case in Perlis involving RM1.183 million linked to marriage registrations. On June 5, the agency detained three suspects, including the Perlis Shariah chief registrar of marriages. Azam explained, "We are in the process of freezing the bank accounts of these suspects. We aim to trace the flow of the money deposited into their accounts and understand how it was utilized."

The three individuals detained in the Perlis case include a senior officer of the Perlis Islamic Religious Affairs Department and an imam from a mosque in Kangar. They are being held for five days, until June 9, to assist with the investigation.

These investigations underscore the MACC’s commitment to tackling corruption and fraud at various levels of government and administration. As both cases progress, the MACC will continue to gather evidence and prosecute those involved to uphold integrity and transparency in public service.
