The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is intensifying its investigation into a significant fraud case involving over 600 hectares of Malay reserve land in Perak. According to Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki, more witnesses will be summoned, including former Perak executive councillors (exco).

Azam highlighted that this represents the second phase of the investigation, following the indictment of a Land and Mines Office (PTG) officer in April. "We are scrutinizing the minutes of exco approval meetings and interviewing additional witnesses, including these exco members. Prosecution is imminent," Azam stated during a press briefing after attending the finals of the Higher Education Institution Anti-Corruption Debate Competition at Universiti Teknologi Petronas.

On April 30, a former deputy registrar of titles at the state PTG, Rosli Che Mohamed, 64, faced charges at the Ipoh Sessions Court for allegedly altering the status of 649.2 hectares of Malay reserve land in Sitiawan, Manjung, 12 years prior. Rosli is accused of deceiving the Perak Agricultural Land Board by making it believe that the land, designated as property title No PN 174770-174772, No Lot PT 17527-17529 in Sitiawan, was not Malay reserve land, using a data correction form dated March 25, 2011.

In relation to the case, a managing director of a property company was remanded for three days but was released on May 30. Azam noted that although the Magistrates’ Court remand order for the managing director expired, the investigation remains active.

Separately, Azam announced that MACC is seeking to freeze the bank accounts of three suspects involved in an RM1.183 million marriage registration bribery case in Perlis. The suspects, detained on June 5, include the Perlis Shariah chief registrar of marriages. "We aim to trace the money deposited in their accounts and investigate its expenditure," Azam explained.

Currently, three individuals, including a senior officer from the Perlis Islamic Religious Affairs Department and an imam from a mosque in Kangar, are under a five-day remand until June 9 to assist in the ongoing investigation. The MACC is determined to uncover the extent of the corruption and ensure justice is served. — Bernama
