Governance issues are not prosecutable offences, but MACC will recommend improvements to UiTM Holdings after probing losses incurred by the company.
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has identified governance issues and weaknesses in the management of UiTM Holdings Sdn Bhd following investigations into losses incurred by the company.
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said the commission would recommend measures to address the shortcomings identified.
He said reviewing governance practices formed part of the MACC’s investigative framework.
“Although governance issues are not offences that can be prosecuted in court, the recommendations are intended to bring about improvements.
“The MACC will recommend improvements to any process in which we identify weaknesses. In the case of UiTM Holdings, there are indeed governance issues, and we will recommend several measures for the company to address them.”
He said this at a press conference in conjunction with the MACC’s 59th anniversary celebration at its headquarters here today.
On the investigation, which began in 2023, Abd Halim said it remained ongoing as criminal cases were not subject to a limitation period.
“As long as the investigation to obtain information, evidence, exhibits and documents is not complete, the case will continue to be investigated.
“At this stage, the investigation is focused on one suspect (who was charged today). However, if new elements or evidence emerge, the investigation will be extended to other parties,” he said.
Earlier today, former UiTM Holdings chief executive officer Azlizan Fadzil, 52, pleaded not guilty at the Shah Alam Sessions Court to a charge of criminal breach of trust involving RM37.37 million in 2017.
