KUALA LUMPUR – The Madani government has successfully delivered 511,544 units of affordable housing, exceeding the 500,000-unit target set under the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12), said Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.
He stated that the achievement, as of 30 September, includes units that are completed, under construction, or have received planning approval.
“This achievement is truly remarkable. No previous government has ever met the set target.
“The Madani government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is the first to not only reach but surpass the 500,000-unit target for affordable homes.
“Five key reform mechanisms, including the Electronic Sale and Purchase Agreement (eSPA), the Housing Integrated Management System (HIMS), and the Housing Development Account audit (HDA), have been introduced. I am confident that no housing project will be abandoned by 2030,” he said.
Nga made the remarks at a press conference following the KPKT 2025 Success Celebration and the key handover ceremony for Vista Tiara Johor Bahru at Vista Tiara Danga Bay today.
He added that the states with the highest number of affordable homes are Klang Valley, Selangor, and Johor, reflecting local demand. The ministry has also rescued 1,333 stalled and troubled projects, accounting for nearly 160,000 housing units nationwide over the past three years.
“The homeownership rate among Malaysian families now stands at 76.5 per cent, demonstrating stronger social and economic stability,” he said.
In a separate announcement, Nga revealed that the ministry has approved RM82 million for the first People’s Residency Programme (PRR) in Johor, to be developed in Larkin.
“The project will feature integrated development and serve as transitional housing for young adults, with management handled by the Johor State Housing Development Corporation (PKPJ).
“Typically, a three-bedroom rental in the area costs around RM2,000, but the government will set rents at RM600 for three-bedroom units and RM200 for one-bedroom units to support young workers or newly married couples,” he said, adding that the project is currently at the tender stage, with construction expected to begin in the first quarter of next year. - December 9, 2025
