Kuala Lumpur: Tuaran Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau (pic) has proposed the Sabah 30 Aspiration to raise the manufacturing sector’s contribution to the state’s economy from 7.2 per cent in 2025 to more than 30 per cent.
Debating the 2027 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday, he said the State’s rich resources—including oil palm, biomass, marine produce, timber, and minerals—must be translated into downstream industries to generate quality jobs and raise people’s incomes.
To achieve this, the Upko honorary president proposed establishing a Sabah Manufacturing Transformation Fund to support biomass, nanocellulose, food, marine, timber, and mineral-based industries.
He also urged support for POIC Lahad Datu, Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park, and other industrial parks to develop competitive infrastructure and logistics facilities, alongside joint efforts by federal agencies such as Miti, Mida, and Matrade to draw investments to Sabah.
Tangau further called on the Higher Education Ministry to strengthen Technical and Vocational Education and Training (Tvet) to ensure the local workforce meets industry requirements.
