Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) urged the Renewable Energy Association of Sabah (REASabah) to provide input to the State Government and assist in producing workable policies for Sabah’s electricity supply industry.

SESB Chairman Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau made the call during a courtesy visit by REASabah to him at his office in Wisma SESB here.

According to REASabah, Madius discussed challenges faced by SESB, including aspects of generation adequacy, generation fuel mix and the role of independent power producers (IPP).

Madius said there was a need for new generation sources, especially in Sabah’s East Coast, adding that SESB is highly dependent on the Federal Government for fuel and tariff subsidies, as its production cost was higher than consumer tariffs.

During the visit, Madius was also informed on REASabah’s objectives.

The association was formed in 2015, as a platform for stakeholders in Sabah’s RE space to provide input on RE policies and implementation.
