
MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 5.3 earthquake shook the province of Davao Occidental before dawn on Sunday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The tremor occurred at 1:22 a.m. 217 kilometers (kms) southeast of the municipality of Jose Abad Santos.
The quake, with a depth of 52 kms, was tectonic in origin.
Phivolcs said that although aftershocks are possible, damage to infrastructure was unlikely.
