Chess star Magnus Carlsen pushed away a camera after a defeat at the World Blitz Championships in Qatar, with FIDE reviewing the incident.
DOHA: Former world chess champion Magnus Carlsen pushed away a camera following a loss at the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships.
The incident occurred after Carlsen was beaten by Vladislav Artemiev in Doha on Saturday.
A photographer followed Carlsen as he stormed out of the venue, prompting the Norwegian to push the camera away.
FIDE CEO Emil Sutovsky told Reuters the governing body does not plan action but will review the incident if a complaint is launched.
Carlsen had a frustrating second day, drawing with Maxime Vachier-Lagrave before his defeat to Artemiev.
This is not the first time Carlsen’s vexation has boiled over in public.
He previously slammed his fist on the table after losing to world champion Gukesh Dommaraju at the Norway Chess 2025 tournament.
Last year, he briefly quit the World Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships when FIDE barred him from a round for wearing jeans.
Despite the defeat, Carlsen remains in title contention at the championships.
He sits in joint second place with seven points alongside Alexey Sarana, Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus and Nodirbek Abdusattorov.
Artemiev and Hans Niemann share the lead in the open category on 7.5 points.
