The "real truth" about the assets that Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his family held was requested, and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad agreed.

According to the current prime minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the former prime minister's riches are known to the general public.

"Tun M requesting proof? If his children have ships, private jets, and billion-dollar companies, what additional evidence do you require?" said Anwar.

The Prime Minister remarked that doing this was similar to straightening a sticky thread. He made this statement when asked about the former Dr Mahathir's request for Anwar to provide numerous purported pieces of evidence.

According to FMT, Anwar had asserted that Mahathir had amassed wealth for his family while serving as prime minister. Then, Mahathir refuted the accusation and pressed Anwar for supporting evidence.

In response to the claim, the former prime minister sued Anwar for libel for RM150 million, asking RM50 million in general damages and an additional RM100 million in exemplary damages.

When he filed the lawsuit on May 3, Mahathir claimed that because Anwar made the remarks while serving as prime minister, they had a much more significant negative impact on him than if a regular person had made them.

The claims, according to him, damaged his reputation as a statesman and former prime minister. He demands that Anwar retract all negative remarks about him that have been shared on social media and in the press.

Mahathir claimed that since Anwar's defamatory remarks were heard and seen by many individuals, they were meant to harm his reputation among the general public.

Mahathir further requests that Anwar unconditionally apologize and promise to refrain from making the same or similar claims in the future.

According to Astro Awani, the former Langkawi member of parliament demanded Anwar shows his fortune when Anwar was Deputy Prime Minister. Anwar responded by saying that he had no difficulty doing so in response to the question. "I declared my assets, whereas Dr Mahathir does not," Anwar said.

"Recently, I announced RM11,000,000, which is the cost of a home in Segambut. That is now known to the general public and is no longer a secret," Anwar added.

The two leaders had already disclosed their separate assets to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as mandated by the PH government in March 2019 during the tenure of Dr Mahathir as the seventh Prime Minister. Anwar listed RM10.74 million as the total worth of his assets, while Tun Dr Mahathir listed RM32.3 million as the total worth of his assets.
