Main Sandakan-Lahad Datu road in Sukau collapses, thousands of users affected

THE main road connecting Sandakan with Lahad Datu in WP25 Sukau, Kinabatangan, collapsed early this morning, affecting thousands of road users.

Kinabatangan District Officer, Suhaimi Ejip, when contacted by Astro Awani, confirmed the incident and has instructed the district Public Works Department (JKR) to immediately identify the cause and resolve the problem.

Suhaimi hopes that users will be careful when passing through the area and be patient with the difficulties encountered.

Jalan Sukau, which is in the Kinabatangan area, is the main road connecting the West and East Coasts of Sabah and is also among the alignments of the Pan Borneo Highway, which is currently being completed.

Previously, the road in Silam Lahad Datu also experienced similar collapses, believed to be due to settled and unstable soil. – May 26, 2026
