
Thousands of motorists in Sabah faced disruptions after a major road section linking Sandakan and Lahad Datu collapsed in Sukau early this morning.
A major road linking Sandakan and Lahad Datu at WP25 Sukau collapsed early this morning, disrupting travel for thousands of road users.
Kinabatangan District Officer Suhaimi Ejip confirmed the incident to Awani and said the district branch of the Public Works Department (JKR) had been instructed to immediately determine the cause of the collapse and take the necessary measures to resolve the issue.

He also urged road users to exercise caution when travelling through the affected area and to remain patient amid the inconvenience caused.
Jalan Sukau, located within the Kinabatangan district, serves as a key route connecting Sabah’s west and east coasts and is also part of the alignment for the ongoing construction of the Pan Borneo Highway.
Previously, a road section in Silam, Lahad Datu experienced a similar collapse, believed to have been caused by unstable and subsiding ground conditions.
