SHAH ALAM, Mar 4 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Islamic affairs in the state, including efforts to combat deviant teachings.

Its chairman Dato’ Salehuddin Saidin said the commitment aligns with the decree of Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, during the opening of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly last month.

“Mais members and management under my leadership pledge, with God’s permission, to fulfil to the best of our abilities all the aspirations and commands entrusted to us by Your Highness,” he said.

Salehuddin spoke at a breaking of fast event with the Ruler at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque here yesterday.

On February 18, Sultan Selangor reminded the Selangor Islamic Religious Department to continue combating deviant teachings while overseeing and improving the tahfiz school system.

Meanwhile, Salehuddin expressed his gratitude for His Royal Highness’ consent to appoint him Mais chairman, effective Saturday.

“This appointment is a heavy responsibility for me to bear, but God willing, I will uphold Your Highness’ decree and trust with utmost dedication, together with the members and management of Mais,” he said.

On February 20, Sultan Sharafuddin consented to Salehuddin’s appointment, replacing Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof, who stepped down early due to health reasons.
