Ahead of the Municipal Council elections, the Punjab Government has removed Executive Officer (EO) Randeep Singh Waraich from the additional charge of Municipal Council Majitha following directions received from the Punjab State Election Commission.

According to orders issued by the Local Government Department, EO Randeep Singh Waraich, presently posted at Municipal Council Tarn Taran, has been relieved from the additional charge of Majitha with immediate effect. The government has now assigned the additional charge of Municipal Council Majitha to EO Anil Chopra along with his present posting.

The orders, issued by Manjeet Singh Brar, Secretary, Local Government Department, directed the concerned officer to submit joining report at the new place of posting on or before May 18. The instructions came after a communication received from the State Election Commission.

The transfer assumes significance amid an ongoing political row in Majitha over alleged irregularities in the municipal election process, particularly regarding issuance of NOCs and functioning of the civic body administration.

Reacting to the development, senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia termed the transfer a victory of truth and democracy. He alleged that the officer was being used by the Aam Aadmi Party government to harass SAD candidates by denying NOCs and influencing the election process.

Majithia claimed the Election Commission’s intervention had exposed backdoor tactics and arm-twisting methods allegedly being adopted to derail the election process in Majitha. He further said the officer’s removal vindicated repeated objections raised by the Akali Dal regarding the functioning of the Municipal Council during the election period.
