Tension prevailed outside Majitha Police Station on Sunday as members of a farmers’ union, along with senior SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia and his supporters, staged a protest against the arrest of a local youth, Jobanpreet Singh.

They alleged that Jobanpreet, who had been a polling agent for the SAD during the recently concluded municipal council elections, was arrested by the police in an alleged fabricated case.

According to police officials, Jobanpreet Singh was detained from his residence around 5:30 am and brought to Majitha Police Station for questioning.

During the protest, Majithia questioned police officers about the youth’s whereabouts and alleged that authorities were withholding information regarding his detention. He termed the arrest an act of political vendetta. He also alleged that the youth was later found at the residence of the SHO, with his mouth tied.

Addressing the media, DSP Kamalmeet Singh stated that Jobanpreet Singh had been nominated among 15 unidentified persons accused in a case involving the alleged assault on AAP worker Paramjit Singh Pamma and the snatching of a gold chain during the municipal council elections.
