Make tech affordable for SMEs, Gobind urges industry players

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia is putting in place governance, talent programmes and sectoral frameworks to help Malaysian companies, especially small and medium enterprises (SMEs), adopt artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly and at scale.

Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said the country’s digital ambitions could be advanced further with the help of technology players who make their tools and solutions affordable and accessible to all, including SMEs.

Speaking at the launch of Dassault Systèmes’ new office in Bandar Utama this afternoon, Gobind said Malaysia was building the data, connectivity and cybersecurity foundations needed for industrial AI through the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and its Digital Economy Blueprint.

Dassault Systèmes is a French software and solutions provider.

“Through our partnerships with MITI, the Selangor government and other public agencies represented here today, we are ensuring that digital policy and industrial policy pull in the same direction,” Gobind said.

He called on Dassault Systèmes to support SMEs by making its technology affordable and providing hands-on training.

“All I ask in return is for Dassault Systèmes to assist our SMEs. By making technology affordable and offering hands-on training, your company’s initiatives and tools can deliver lasting national value.

“As such, I call on Dassault Systèmes to commit to measurable goals here, supported fully by my ministry and MDEC.”

Also present were French Ambassador to Malaysia Marc Abensour; Selangor executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han; and Dassault Systèmes executive vice-president for Asia Pacific Samson Khaou.

Gobind said France had built one of the world’s most sophisticated industrial technology ecosystems, spanning aerospace, nuclear technology and luxury manufacturing, through strategic investments and research.

“Malaysia must take the same steps. Partnerships like this one will certainly assist us in our goal of turning Malaysia into an AI Nation and further growing our already booming digital economy.”
