MALABON City Mayor Jeannie Sandoval on Monday said that the Ospital ng Malabon (OsMal) is gearing up to be accredited as a Level 2 Hospital following the groundbreaking for its new six-story extension.

Sandoval stressed that the proposed extension structure of OsMal would be a key step toward elevating the hospital’s level of service and overall capability.

OsMal’s Chief of Hospital Dr. Jennifere Amolo-Lim said that for a decade, the public hospital has served as a Level 1 beacon of care.

“But a rising city — one that embraces the Malabon Ahon spirit — cannot be satisfied with the status quo when lives are on the line,” Amolo-Lim stated.

She echoed Sandoval’s statement that OsMal’s extension building will serve as the hospital’s bridge toward becoming a Department of Health (DOH)-accredited Level 2 Hospital.

City Administrator Alexander Rosete told The Manila Times that the project aims to significantly expand the hospital’s capacity and further enhance the quality of health care services provided by the city government, addressing the growing medical needs of Malabon’s population.

“It forms a big part of the local chief executive’s Lucky 9-Point Agenda-Libreng Serbisyo sa Ospital ng Malabon, which aims to improve the delivery of health care services and provide assistance to ‘Malabueños’ with their hospital expenses,” Rosete said.

Once completed, the extension building will enable OsMal to offer departmentalized clinical services, establish critical care facilities such as its own Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and house advanced medical technologies, including high-tier imaging and tertiary laboratory services, the local government said.

These improvements will allow residents to access life-saving diagnostics and specialized care without the need to seek treatment outside the city, the city officials said.

Upon completion, the new facility will provide an additional 16-bed capacity, helping reduce overcrowding and improve patient accommodation.

Essential medical services will be strengthened through modern facilities, including dental services, a rehabilitation center, a CT (computed tomography) scan facility, and fully equipped major and minor surgery operating rooms, according to the city government.

The extension facility will also expand patient care areas such as Male and Female Medical Private Wards, a Medical Isolation Room, and additional Nurse Stations to ensure efficient and continuous health care delivery.

Present during the ceremony were the city’s first gentleman and ex-congressman Ricky Sandoval, city councilors, department heads, and representatives from the Department of Health and the Philippine Red Cross Malabon Chapter, among others.
