MANILA, Philippines— Malacañang on Monday ordered a work-from-home (WFH) setup for government offices and alternative learning modes in schools in all levels in public and private schools in Metro Manila and 14 provinces due to the anticipated heavy rainfall caused by the southwest monsoon or habagat.
The directive, signed by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto, was issued upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. It covers the National Capital Region, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Zambales, Bataan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Benguet, Pangasinan, Abra, Tarlac, Pampanga, Oriental Mindoro, and Bulacan.
For the private sector, the suspension of work or implementation of alternative work arrangements remains at the discretion of company heads.
Government agencies responsible for basic and health services, disaster preparedness and response, and other vital public operations were instructed to remain fully operational and continue rendering assistance.
Local chief executives in areas not listed in the directive have the authority to declare localized work or class suspensions pursuant to existing laws and regulations.
