Malacañang slams Carpio on BIR tax records

MANILA, Philippines — Malacañang on Friday said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. was just following the law, following his clearance for the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) to submit subpoenaed bank records of Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, Atty. Mans Carpio, to the Senate or the Impeachment Court.

In a video message, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro defended Marcos, saying he is only adhering to due process and the law in pursuit of transparency.

“If Atty. Carpio has concerns, he has the right to take legal action, and we will see the results of this in due course. However, if there is nothing to hide and no anomalies in the records, there is no need to fear. One should even take pride in showing that their earnings are clean,” she said.
