The Member of Parliament (MP) for Bukit Bendera, Syerleena Abdul Rashid, is currently making waves online following her choice of attire for the Chinese New Year celebrations.

Taking to her Instagram page, she shared a video of herself donning a cheongsam while visiting a school to greet students. In the post, she shared:

“I celebrate all the festivals in Malaysia. I am not forcing you to wear a Cheongsam, yeah? It’s up to the individual.”

The footage shows Syerleena waving and high-fiving students as she enters the school hall in a cheongsam that ends just above the knee.

 

To cover up or not to cover up?

The MP’s choice of a knee-length cheongsam has sparked a debate online, with many netizens divided. While some championed her for embracing cultural diversity, others felt she should have opted for a more modest cut.
