Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has revealed that Malaysia will work closely with Japan to accelerate the reconstruction efforts in Gaza, following the ceasefire that has brought a temporary halt to the violence. Anwar emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that both countries are determined to help rebuild Gaza as quickly as possible to ensure that the region’s residents can begin to heal and rebuild their lives after years of conflict.

In his statement, Anwar highlighted that his Japanese counterpart, Shigeru Ishiba, had suggested speeding up the reconstruction process in light of the ceasefire agreement. This is seen as a crucial window of opportunity to restore vital infrastructure, homes, and essential services to the people of Gaza. Anwar further explained that Ishiba's proposal was focused on ensuring that peace could lead to lasting recovery for the people of Gaza, allowing for an immediate shift from crisis to reconstruction.

During a press conference following his keynote address at the Invest Malaysia event, Anwar explained that Ishiba had also extended an invitation for Malaysia to take on a co-chairing role with Japan at an upcoming conference on East Asian Cooperation for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD) scheduled for July. This conference aims to gather international support for the reconstruction of Gaza, focusing on cooperation between countries in East Asia to provide aid and expertise.

The conference will serve as a platform for identifying sustainable solutions, pooling resources, and facilitating international collaboration for Gaza’s recovery. Anwar expressed his commitment to participating actively, noting that the conference would be pivotal in forming a comprehensive plan for Gaza’s long-term development.

In addition to the conference, both Malaysia and Japan are exploring various methods to secure funding and develop an efficient strategy to assist Gaza immediately. Anwar shared his intention to reach out to Prime Minister Ishiba directly to discuss the next steps and ensure that the necessary coordination is in place for an urgent response.

This collaboration between Malaysia and Japan marks a significant development in the global response to Gaza’s needs, particularly as both nations have shown a strong willingness to use their diplomatic influence to drive international support for reconstruction. Ishiba’s visit to Malaysia earlier this month set the stage for this partnership, with both sides agreeing that the time to act is now, in order to capitalize on the newfound peace and bring immediate relief to Gaza's population.

By combining Malaysia's expertise in humanitarian aid and Japan's experience in post-conflict reconstruction, this joint initiative is expected to provide not only financial resources but also the technical assistance necessary for a successful recovery process. Both countries have a shared vision of peace and stability in Gaza, and they are committed to playing an instrumental role in rebuilding the region, ensuring that it emerges from the conflict stronger and more resilient.

Through this effort, Malaysia and Japan hope to inspire other nations and organizations to contribute to Gaza’s recovery, working together to create a lasting impact on the lives of the Palestinian people.
