JEDDAH - Malaysia is still awaiting the outcome of investigations by the Saudi Arabian authorities into allegations that five Malaysians were detained for attempting to enter Makkah without Haj permits.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said the government was seeking further information on the matter.

"We are still waiting for the investigation,” he said briefly after attending the 2026 Grand Haj Symposium here today.

Earlier, a Saudi Arabian news portal reported that five Malaysians were arrested after allegedly attempting to enter Makkah illegally through hilly desert valleys.

According to the report, the Saudi Arabian General Directorate of Mujahideen said the individuals were detained for violating regulations for the 1447H Haj season before legal action was taken against them.

The Saudi authorities also reminded pilgrims and residents to comply with all regulations and procedures to ensure the smooth running and safety of this year’s Haj operations. - BERNAMA
