KUALA LUMPUR — The security forces have stepped up patrols and tightened inspections along the Malaysia-Thailand border following the fatal shooting of a Malaysian man in Sungai Golok, Narathiwat, late last night.

The General Operations Force (GOF) Southeast Brigade said enhanced border security measures are already in place, but stressed that vigilance along the frontier is maintained at all times — not just in reaction to isolated incidents.

“Regardless of any incident that occurs on the Thai side, we on the Malaysian side are always vigilant,” said acting commander ACP Ijid Landu Binju at a press conference at the Tactical Company Headquarters (Martek) in Pengkalan Kubor today.

“I have instructed all officers and personnel stationed along the border to remain on high alert and continue implementing preventive measures,” he added.

Ijid said roadblocks and border patrols have been further strengthened as a precaution to maintain security and ensure effective control across the northern frontier.

The stepped-up measures follow reports that a Malaysian man was shot dead in a house in Sungai Golok town, in Thailand’s Narathiwat province, near the Kelantan border. — November 2, 2025
