The government increases rice reserve stock to 300,000 metric tonnes to safeguard supply against global disruptions and ensure national food security
KUALA LUMPUR: The government has increased the country’s rice reserve stock to 300,000 metric tonnes.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said this is an early measure against potential supply disruptions from the global energy crisis.
The move aims to ensure rice supply remains sufficient and secure for the people.
“The government is constantly monitoring the situation and continues to work hard to ensure everyone’s basic needs are well taken care of,” he said in a Facebook post.
He also invited citizens to practise thrift and avoid wastage.
Mohamad, popularly known as ‘Bang Mat’, said all efforts are to ensure the nation’s food security remains strong.
On March 13, he stated the government agreed to increase the national rice reserve stock to cover nine months.
This precautionary step aims to ensure food supply security amid geopolitical uncertainty in West Asia.
