Malaysia clinches five golds at World Wushu Championships

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s wushu team closed its campaign at the 17th World Wushu Championships with a flourish, securing a fifth gold medal on the final day of competition in the Brazilian capital.

The women’s trio of Tan Cheong Min, Lee Jia Rong and Pang Pui Yee captured gold in the duilian event, scoring 9.630 points to edge Italy, which settled for silver with 9.623 points. Hong Kong claimed bronze with 9.613 points.

In the men’s duilian event, the Malaysian trio of Clement Ting Su Wei, Si Shin Peng and Bryan Ti Kai Jie delivered a bronze with 9.613 points.

Gold went to Macau, which posted 9.620 points, while Hong Kong finished second after being edged on difficulty despite recording the same score.

The results brought Malaysia’s overall tally at the championship to five golds, one silver and two bronzes – one of the team’s strongest-ever showings at the global tournament.

The Wushu Federation of Malaysia praised the athletes’ efforts in a message on Facebook, describing the performance as a proud gift to the nation.

“With five gold, one silver and two bronze medals, our athletes gave their very best on the world stage, dedicating these achievements as a heartfelt gift to Malaysia in celebration of our National Day,” the federation said.

The 17th edition of the championships, which gathered wushu athletes from across the world, concluded in Brasilia today. — September 8, 2025
