NAGOYA, Sept 25 — Malaysia has reportedly ended a 36-year wait for the Asian Games men’s sepak takraw team regu title after beating rivals Thailand 2-0 in the final at Nagoya City Mizuho Arena today.
According to Berita Harian, the victory was Malaysia’s first gold in the event since the 1990 Beijing Asian Games, when the national side also defeated Thailand in the final.
Mohammad Syahir Mohd Rosdi, Farhan Adam and Mohamad Azlan Alias gave Malaysia the opening point by beating Marukin Phanmakon, Putawan Sopa and Pornthep Tingbangbon 15-9, 5-15, 15-11.
The second regu then sealed the title with a 15-13, 15-10 straight-sets victory over Thailand.
It was Malaysia’s second consecutive victory over Thailand in a team regu final at a major multi-sport Games, after also beating them at the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand last December.
The triumph delivered Malaysia’s fourth gold medal of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
