KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has expressed its sympathy and support for Qatar and Bahrain following threats to their sovereignty and national security.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim conveyed this position during separate phone conversations with Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Bahrain’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The discussions focused on current developments in both nations and the wider Middle East region.
This follows recent regional conflict involving Israel, the United States and Iran.
“I also appreciate the efforts of the governments of Qatar and Bahrain in ensuring the safety and welfare of Malaysians residing in both countries,” Anwar said in a statement.
He added that all parties agreed on the need to prioritise peaceful approaches and exercise restraint.
Such actions are crucial to avoid jeopardising regional stability and security.
Anwar also expressed hope that the holy month of Ramadan would strengthen unity and create space for lasting peace.
He emphasised this hope extends to stability in the region and around the world.
