Malaysia is expected to recruit 200,000 Bangladeshi workers within six months

SHAH ALAM – Malaysia is expected to recruit around 200,000 workers from Bangladesh over the next six months, with the recruitment process scheduled to begin at the end of this month.

Citing a report by The Daily Star, Bangladeshi Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives junior minister Mir Shahe Alam, stated that the recruitment process would be carried out through various agencies in the country.

According to him, approximately 10,000 of these workers will be recruited free of charge.

"In Malaysia, there are about 800,000 registered Bangladeshi workers. There are also unregistered ones.

"Our minister has requested the Malaysian authorities to register them," he said.

He made these comments following a meeting between the Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Shuhada Othman, and the Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, Abdul Moyeen Khan.

He added that the issue of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's upcoming visit to Malaysia was also discussed during the meeting to further strengthen friendly relations between the two countries.
