KUALA LUMPUR — Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz has responded to concerns over playing conditions at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, following complaints about water on the court during the ongoing Malaysia Masters 2025.
In a post on X, Tengku Zafrul — who also serves as Investment, Trade and Industry Minister — said he had raised the matter with Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh after receiving multiple reports since the tournament began on Tuesday.
While the issue was initially believed to stem from a leaking roof, the Malaysia Stadium Corporation (PSM), which manages the venue, has clarified that the water was actually caused by condensation.
“I received many complaints. BAM brought the matter to PSM’s attention. The conclusion? Not a leak, but condensation. PSM took immediate action to minimise disruption to play,” Tengku Zafrul wrote.
PSM CEO Iliyas Jamil confirmed to Scoop yesterday that the droplets seen on the court were a result of condensation, not structural damage.
He explained that moisture had formed around the venue’s existing fire suppression and air-conditioning systems located in the roof area.
Several matches this week were temporarily halted as court staff worked to wipe down wet spots.
The Super 500 tournament began on Tuesday and will run until Sunday. — May 23, 2025
